Today, Thursday 19 February, the Official State Gazette (BOE) publishes Royal Decree 126/2026 of 18 February, which sets the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI) for 2026 for all sectors, including agriculture, industry and services, without distinction of gender or age.
2026 Minimum Wage amount
The minimum wage is established at:
- €40.70 per day
- €1,221 per month
The minimum wage refers exclusively to monetary remuneration. In-kind payments cannot reduce the full monetary amount.
The SMI refers to the legal working day for each activity. If a shorter working day is performed, the proportional amount shall be paid.
Fixed-term contracts
Workers with fixed-term contracts whose services for the same company do not exceed 120 days shall receive, together with the minimum wage, the proportional part corresponding to Sundays, public holidays and two extraordinary payments.
In no case may the amount be less than €57.82 per legal working day.
Domestic workers
The minimum wage for domestic workers paid by the hour, including temporary and seasonal workers, is set at:
- €9.55 per hour effectively worked
This amount includes all salary components.
Annual calculation
The minimum wage increase shall not affect salary structures when total annual remuneration exceeds the established minimum wage.
The annual minimum wage may not be considered lower than €17,094.
Entry into force
The Royal Decree enters into force on 20 February 2026, with economic effects from 1 January to 31 December 2026, meaning payments must be adjusted retroactively from the beginning of the year.
